I got this set last Christmas. My brother was not too certain about getting me this set because I had not painted since high school. In the end, he yielded and got me this set. It had a lot of items, and it was at a low price. My first attempt at painting had been with temperas. This set did not have temperas. Looking back, I think the tubes were acrylic. It is hard to tell. Anyhow, the first thing I tried were the acrylics. The acrylics have quite the interesting perks.

I first messed up because I placed the shades and then tried for the lighter shades. This works betters with oils. With acrylics you have to go from lighter to darker. The wooden easel works pretty well. I also tried the steel easel, but only for a few minutes. A butterfly landed on my head and thus I had to retreat indoors. The entire set can also work for up to three people. There is a lot of variety for about every type of painting method people prefer. All in all this is perfect for people who are masters of mixed media or who are starting out. Makes for a great artsy gift.

• Does this art set come with any instructions?

  Sorry, fish the set doesn't come with any instructions. US art supply sort of expects for you to already know how to use all the items in this set. 

• I was wondering if there was some way to customize the set?

  Sorry buddy, what you see is what you get. There is no way to customize it and say I want this, but not that. 

• How was everything packed. All together in a jumbo, or everything in its individual casing?

  Everything came in a large package and inside everything was packed in their own individual packages for protection. Think of it like one of those Russian Nesting dolls.

• What is the entire weight of the complete package?

  The entire set weights between 16 to 17 pounds. It came in a big box, with lots of the cushioned stuff. Individually, all the items are pretty light. 

• Are both the metal easel and the wood easel sturdy enough to paint on?

  My human has used both, and she has found them rather useful. They are sturdy and hold the canvas and art panels well. It is just a matter of preferences, if you are a sitting painter or a standing painter. 

• Is everything featured in the photo really come in this set?

  I bought the same set so I can vouched that I got everything that this set promised. There are no instructions however, but you can figure it out on your own, if you have a bit of common sense. I know I did. 

• What's the middle rod in the stand used for? I can put it up and down, but I don't get it.

  The metal rod is like an extension support to hold up your canvas. It works with canvases of all different sizes. 

• Do these sketchpad come with pre-printed drawings or do they come completely blank?

  All the sketchpads come with blank sheets for you to color. So, if you are looking for a coloring book of sorts there are none to be found in this set.
