Winsor and Newton's Cotman Watercolors offers a nice range. They are one of the highest quality sets of pigments on the market. They are balanced out with more economic alternatives. You will get the quality of the paint, without going bankrupt. The color comes with a bit of transparency. It has good tinting strength. The permanent rose pigment was introduced in the 1950s. I got it because no sets of paint come with the color pink. I usually have a hard time mixing my paints. This is a good alternative for those who cannot get the pink they desire.

  • Are these paints permanent?

Most watercolor paints tend to last a long time. There are some watercolor paintings that have kept their colors for centuries. It all depends on the quality of the paper.

  • What is the difference between this paint and other winsor and newton watercolors?

There is not really much of a difference. They are bit more affordable, but the quality is the same. Other sets come in solid cakes. It is just a matter if you like your watercolors in tubes or in cakes.

  • If the paints dry in the palette, can I add water to work with the paints again?

As long as you add water, you can work with these paints. Even when the paints come rock solid, just adding water can release the magic of watercolor.

  • Will these paints wash up?

The paints wash up real easily. They are water based, so if you stain your hands you will be able to clean them up easily.
