Details:

This is a fashion book focusing on 20th century fashion accessories of both men and women. It features examples of fashion accessories popular in the last 20th century.

This fashion book has more than 2000 color drawings. It was compiled thanks to the extensive research of the author, John Peacock. He looked through paintings, photographs and real world examples. A lot of time was spent in meticulously rendering the fashion piece. The book features accessories worn by both men and women. It has everything from jewelries to bow-ties. It doesn't focus only on evening wear. You can find sports wear and casual wear accessories.

All the accessories of each decade are identified. The final part of the book has the bibliography. It comes with a chart that shows how each individual piece of accessory has evolved since the start of the century. This book was designed for fashion fans and historians. It is also useful for the performing arts as well. I first ran into the book while at University, to say it like the fellows in Britain. The book there had seen a lot of usage over the years.

When I complete school, I felt like having my own version of the book. The one seen here is the latest edition. I wanted to see if there had been any interesting developments as far as accessories go. It's the details that makes things interesting. This book is also useful for people who draw or write, or both. At the end of each chapter, there are item descriptions of each pieces. Ideal for people who do not know their silks from their satins.

  • Does the book have any templates to make some of those items? Or is it just pictures?

The book only has the pictures of the clothing items and purses. It is designed for people who do illustrations, not actually make the items. Needless to say, it is not a sewing book.

  • Does this book ship from the US?

I think the book ships from England, cause that is where the book originated from. I ordered it from there and it arrived just fine, though it took some time to get here. No more than a week however. So, it's cool, if you do not live in London and wish to have the book.

  • What sort of fashion accessories does this book feature?

The book features shoes, hats, pins, purses, watches, gloves, rings, barrettes, ties and many other items. It doesn't include lipstick and makeup, because it only focuses on physical items, not things you put on your face.

  • Does the book feature anything from the 21st century?

Well, it makes sense that a book taking place in the 20th century would not feature anything after the year 1999. So, sorry, it has nothing from the year 2001 and beyond. Not that it matters much, since I have not seen much change in outfits over the last 18 years or so.

  • Does the book describe accessories from other countries or just Europe?

The book focuses on accessories mostly from Europe and more specifically on England and the US. This is due to the fact that the writer is British. So, it makes sense he would feature something that he is familiar with instead of having to do some more complicated research.
