Details: Product Description Treasured Family Recipes is a collection of Recipes too good to be forgotten Many are from times gone, but not forgotten; They are treasured Keepsakes passed down from the "Good Old Days" by Aunts, Cousins Mothers, Grandparents, Friends & others Not to mention the wonderful, newer, mouthwatering recipes of recent days that all reflect the love of good cooking. I could not resist including a few short stories from my early childhood during the Kansas Dust Bowl of the early 1930's to add just a pinch of spice, and a quick look at what we ate then and how we prepared it. I have also included some garden tips and hints that might be helpful to some, along with some of Grandma & Aunt Gladys homespun, natural remedies and tips on about everything from snakebite to headaches. You will find my special recipe for homemade lye soap that I made and used while raising my children and regularly until recent years when lye became so scarce. Among the older recipes; are Grandma and Aunt Gladys recipes for home made hominy made from dried corn, along with directions for other hard to find recipes including Sister Bonny, Cousin Alma and my own sour dough bread starter, cakes, breads, pies and much more like Aunt Bert's old fashioned "Goody Goody" taffy, (a tradition in my fathers family), old fashioned lime pickles, sauerkraut, Beef and game jerky, good mincemeat, Pennsylvania Dutch, Amish Shoe-fly pie, homemade butter, cheese, and sausages made from pork, wild, small game, farm animals and Jackrabbit (some are encased in real casings) with directions for skinning, dressing, and cooking some small game, wild, and farm animals, and rattlesnake. Yes you read it right, we cooked ate rattlesnake, it's good, tastes something like fried chicken. If you'd like to know how to make mortar, (cement) and lime whitewash paint like Daddy George made to sterilize and paint the farm hen-house after "not so pleasant" encounter with a skunk, the recipe is here, and many many more interesting and unusual recipes. About the Author I was born during the Great Depression and the Kansas Dust Bowl, (rightly called the Dirty 1930's), in a small western Kansas farm town that looked like an old out west cowboy town with board sidewalks, no paved, main street and no stop lights, but my short time living there was about the most treasured time of my life. I will never forget it. I was broken hearted when we moved away just before WWII. My Father was an operating Engineer, He built roads, air fields, defense plants, Dams and Military installations. After the war, we moved back to (near) Kansas on the farm. I loved that time of my life also. but I grew up somewhere along the way, married, moved to California, had children, Became a non denominational Full Gospel evangelist and street Preacher and author. For more information on my life read my book: Drifting Sand of Time.
