INTERESTING FACTS:
§ In 1869, Abbey studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
§ In 1871, he went to New York to work for the publishing house of Harper & Brothers for production in their ‘weekly.’
§ In 1876, he made pen-and-ink illustrations for Dicken‘s ‘Christmas Stories’
§ In 1878, Abbey traveled to England with a commission by Harpers to illustrate Robert Herrick’s poems.
§ From 1890-1901, he painted his most ambitious work, a mural for the delivery room of the public library in Boston, Massachusetts.
§ In 1898, Abbey was elected a full member of the Royal Academy.
