All the pompoms can be made from scraps of yarn in your stash and the designs use only small amounts. You can use plastic pompom makers or the traditional cardboard ring technique. Sachiyo's delightful designs include a ladybug, a fox, a hummingbird, a hamster, a dolphin and a hedgehog. With beautiful photographs to show off these charming pompom creations, this is sure to delight young and old alike. Review Booklist August 2019 Ishii, known for her numerous miniature-knitting books, focuses this time on creating little creatures using pompoms: exceedingly adorable faunae that include mammals, insects, fish, birds, and more. In addition to crafting the pompoms themselves, instructions are provided for how to assemble each of the 35 creatures and how to needle felt, sew, and embroider features such as ears and faces. While the book is written for a grown-up reader, the creatures will no doubt be appealing to youngsters and Ishii notes that those apprehensive about using sharp needle felting tools could use glue to attach those features instead. — Anne Heidemann About the Author Sachiyo Ishii was born and raised in Japan.
