I made an Youtube Video about 15 things you should know about Michelangelo. He was a painter, sculptor, poet and architect. There were not a lot of European artist that could do all 4 well.

His full name was Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. He would write it as Michel Angelo. He wanted folks to focus on the Angel part of his name. He lived till the ripe of age of 88.

He was also an old miser. When they did an inventory of his stock, he had two unfinished sculptures and 8000 gold coins under his bed. He didn’t trust the banks. He would often paint himself in his frescoes and his sculptures.

If you see a guy with a beard and a crooked nose, it is probably a self portrait of the artist. He got his nose busted when he was a kid. He got in a stupid fight with his friend.

So, he got a crocked nose for life. He gave drawings as gifts. He would often sketch on the same paper. He was just that frugal. He also designed wall fortifications.

His David is a symbol of Florence. He never married and he never had any children. His pieta was his first signed sculpture. He had a very good friend called Tommaso de Cavalieri.

They became roomies after Michelangelo’s old man died. Their friendship lasted until the artist died. I hope you find this information useful. The video goes into a lot more details. Don't forget to check it out in my Artsy Sister Youtube Channel. Please Give a like and subscribe.
