I wanted you to know some of my favorite surrealist painters. I also show you 5 of their paintings. I also made a video blog about them. The first painter I wanted to talk about is Micheal Parkes. He his still alive and well in Spain.

He was born in 1944 in the US. He ended up working in Spain. He created his unique style during a time he had taken a sabbatical from painting. While meditating in India, he found enlightenment or something close to it.

His artworks comes about after long periods of meditation. He is both a surrealist and a magic realism painter. Both art styles kind of overlap. A few of his artworks are inspired on Gustav Klimt’s work.

I would have liked to show that painting to you, but you know how the internet is. Anyhow, look him up. He is a fun painter. The next painter is Rene Magritte. He got a mild mention in my Art History class.

He was born in Belgium in 1898. He dropped dead in 1967. He liked to paint ordinary objects in Bizarre fashion. The painting of his False Mirror is perfect for understanding his approach to art.

The eye represents perception, not truth. Therefore, it is a false mirror that doesn’t reflect reality. He always kept this in mind when brainstorming his paintings. Wojtek Siudmak is a Polish painter and sculptor.

He was born in 1942, and he is still alive and well. He makes surrealist looking book covers and illustrations. My favorite painting of his is called Reincarnation. He also made from covers for the book series Dune.

Zdzislaw Beksinski is the other Polish Surrealist painter I want you to know. He was born in 1929 and he died in 2005. His artwork is often described as dystopian surrealism. Everything is nightmare fuel.

All his paintings are inspired on classical music that he listened to while painting. It is a wonder which pieces inspired these bizarre artworks. Most of his paintings are untitled, so they are open to interpretation.

What you see is what you get. The final Surrealist Painter you should know is Salvador Dali. He is the best known surrealist painter. Practically everyone is familiar with his melted clock painting.

He was born in 1904 and he croaked in 1989. He had many inspirations including dreams and real world events. He was named after his dead brother. He sometimes paints him in his artwork as a shade.

I could have easily made this entire blog about him, but I won’t. I hope that you find these artworks amusing. There is going to be a video of this blog in my Artsy Sister Youtube channel. Please give a like and Subscribe.
