Dreams in the old days was threated as visions of the future. One of the oldest dreams and interpretation was in the epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh has a dream of the future and Enkiku interprets the dream.
In Greece, the Oracle of Delphi interpreted dreams and she gave predictions. She was in operation up until the fall of the roman empire. In the middle ages, the only dreams that got recorded or painted had to have religious significance.
Dead people were allowed to appear in dreams as well. After the Enlightenment period, dreams lost their religious significance. With psychology becoming a thing, painters started illustrating their dreams.
Like most dreams, they did not make sense. I also show you some of the first romantic dreams. The rest of the blog shows dreams painted by surrealist artists.
I hope you find these artworks amusing. There is going to be a video of this blog in my Artsy Sister channel. Please give a like and subscribe.
