This is one of the relatively newest drawing that I made. It is a German lady wearing a period dress. I think it belongs to the 1000s. Dressed like the ones worn by this maiden are known as Elven dresses. If you google elven dress, you will probably run into many that resemble this ones. Most elven maidens in the fantasy worlds wear the same attires. There are some regional variance. For example, I remember seeing elven maidens wearing leaf clothing. Then again, leaf and flowers is the usual attire worn by fairy people. Fairies do not get much attention in fantasy worlds. People usually feature one or the other. Most treat both like they are just about the same thing. Fairies tend to be more like butterflies, they are also relegated to the forest. Only the evil variety can live outside the forest, though they are not happy to. Elves are not bound to the forest either, and they are taller than the average fairy. Well, I am not in the mood for going on about it too much.

Like everything remotely magical, the Catholics from medieval time called fairies demonic. The reason for it is that druids and magicians were technically a competing religion. The Catholics had worked hard to create their hegemony and they were not one to give it up so easily. Most people forget that during the Roman period the Catholics were the minorities. Anyone who had monotheism tendencies got crucified during the Roman times. Knowing that history, it is no wonder that the Catholics were so vicious with anything or anyone that seemed like a competition. As of now, they have chilled out somewhat, and most of the world doesn’t take them too seriously. Needless to say, they have lost a good portion of their credibility. When people think of a religion, they imagine it as this static, never changing thing. It also doesn’t help that most of the priests sell it that way. It would help if people understood the complex history of most of the world religions. Religions changed all the time in the past, and even while they were being forged and that is dandy. To say that everything has always been so, is quite foolish indeed.

Then again, people hate changes. I hate changes as much as the next fellow. Whenever there is a fellow president offering change of some sort, it is usually for the worse. Castro was also another fellow who offered change and look how Cuba ended up. Drastic changes does not usually mean change for the good. Still, these promises of change are usually given by power hungry fellows. As Machiavelli says, for every lair there is an army of idiots willing to believe. People should never had blind belief in one another. Even without trust, one can still function and do operations just dandy. Just think of all those spy clubs, with members always weary of one another. They still manage to get some semblance of a completed mission. The biggest issue I see as of now, is that people judge others the same way they judge themselves.

If they are a good, God fearing fellow, they are foolish enough to believe that other people are good. Yourself, does not equate the world. People are foolish individuals, and they are far more interesting that way. Still, there are those who wish to conquer the world, and create a unified society, with unified values. People say that is crazy talk, but think about it. Which is the social group that preaches liberty, but refuses to accept any ideology that doesn’t match their own? The whole world is full of hypocrites that do not practice what they preach, and then there are the preaches of death. Those Buddhists. Their ideologies are quite dangerous indeed, and people do not realize it. For them, suffering ends when people stop existing. They see life as a flickering candle. Once they extinguish it, you stop existing, and that’s their solution to all life’s problems. This is why Tibetan protestors do the whole burning themselves alive sort of deal. It is a religion that promotes suicide, if you ask me and that don’t sit right with me. I prefer Jainism. You achieve enlightenment by not doing harm. The less harm you do, the closer you get to liberation.

Well, this is enough about religion. I was just thinking about it a bit because I studied quite a large number of them while at University. I had a lot of electives in my major, and I elected to learn something interesting and useful. I suppose I should had tried a science, but after struggling with chemistry, I decided to spend my time doing something else. The only two sciences I got beside that one where Criminology and Solar System Astronomy. Both where interesting, and insightful. Now, back to the drawing. I drew the maiden using my stabile pens, and one Morris bamboo pen. The line art was drawn with pencil. After tracing over it with my pens I erased it with my pentel eraser. The pencils where art 101 and one Derwent pencil. The tiny glistering parts were drawn with my sakura pens. The paper is leda art supply. I hope you find this information useful.
