Outfit of Ottoman Princess Mihrimah Sultan 1541

This drawing features the pretty dress of the original princess Jasmine. Princess Mihrimah was one of the most prominent women of her day. Unlike most European princesses, she worked alongside her father for the welfare of the country. She was a patron of the arts, and continued to do so even after getting married.

Since she hanged out in Europe a lot for diplomatic missions, she needed a European like dress. Her veil was how she marked herself as an Ottoman princess. This shows an interesting blend of both western and oriental fashion. As a whole, it gave me plenty to think about.
