This is another one of the photos I took of Punta Cana. It is a bit of a Rock Garden. Rock gardens use rocks instead of those red sticks. I am trying to remember the name of that thing. Don't you hate when you forget a very simple word? It is something that you see every day. However, when you sit down to write, you forget all about it. Man, I just hate when your mind starts to go sour like that. Well, it is a little bit early for me to worry about it. Lately, I have been drawing more than actually writing. I have been putting a pin on my book, till I come up with something new.
After 8 volumes, I am finally drawing a blank. Maybe, I am bored about writing about fantasy and whatever. Who knew that genre could get stale after a while? People tend to like writing about it, just as much as science fiction. With the latter genre, my brother has some interesting ideas. He says that eventually science will get so advanced that all its wonders will resemble magic. If you think about it, pulling a switch to turn on a light could seem magical to a person who lived 300 years ago. I suppose if you think about it that way, science fiction and magic are interchangeable. Both have their quacks, like scientists and magic users.
The only thing that is the polar opposite of both is writing on the modern day. Modern day writing is mostly devoid of anything too wild. Most people do not experience anything too far out there. Most of the stories taking place today are either romantic or some sob story. Horror stories also take place in the present date. I always wanted to write a silly horror story. My first experience with horror stories was R.L. Stine's Fear Street and Goosebumps.
I first saw those books while in middle school. They had plenty of them translated to Spanish. When I read them, I did not find them scary at all. There is just something about reading horror and spooky that makes it stale. I always found horror movies more scary than horror books. This was the same impression I got from reading the Steven King books. When I started with The Shinning, I found the book extremely boring. If a book bores me after a couple of pages, I tend not to read it.
The only writer that actually made an impression on me was H.P. Lovecraft. He was just the right type of weird to freak me out. I wasn't scare or anything, but some of the stories stayed in my head long enough to produce monsters when I fell asleep. In school they do not read Lovecraft. I do not know why. I think is because he is a racist bastard, like most people from his day. Like half of his short stories start with him talking trash about people from Africa. A real shame. Then again, one doesn't need to be a pillar of good and tolerance to be a good writer. There is lots of horrible people who wrote best sellers.
