Religion aside, I found this stand of offerings to the Virgin Mary rather interesting. Each little figurine represented an answered prayer or a miracle experienced by the worshiper. Taken on their own, each figurine represents a bad episode in a person's life that got resolved satisfactory. Only the guy who gave the item knows what it is all about. If you look closely, there is a couple of Jewish stars thrown in there.
A good number feature a woman's chest. I guess it has to do with breast cancer. It is an affliction that many women are sadly familiar with. Most of the items are handcrafted. Some resemble actual organs. I can look at this picture for hours and makeup a bunch of stories surrounding each of the individual items. It is a good framework for a story. It starts with one of the items, and then it pans out into the story that led into the creation of the item.
There is a Mexican soap opera that has a similar framework. The only difference is that the offering is always a rose. People in South America tend to pray more to the Virgin Mary than to any one else in the entire Catholic pantheon. I am not going to root too deep into religion. I am more interested in the story telling possibilities around actual objects. People tend to have a hard time starting stories. However, going off from an item is a style I rarely see.
