I wanted to show you 10 nice thanksgiving paintings and drawings. The first artwork is a lithograph by Winslow Homer.

It shows the tradition of hanging up the riffle. Thanksgiving was created after the civil war. It originally was a celebration of folks being thankful that they were not at war with one another anymore.

John Schutler, Home To Thanksgiving, 1867 features a business man returning home for the holidays. It is a more traditional Thanksgiving painting. Henry Tanner’s Thankful poor shows Thanksgiving in an African American home.

The old man is thankful that he is no longer slave. Yes, things are dire, but they could be worse. It contrasts with the opulence shown in the white households. Doris Dee features a kitchen thanksgiving scene.

The mothers are making dinner. Jennie Augusta Brownscombe shows the myth of the pilgrims getting saved by the native Americans. Norman Rockwell shows the family celebrating Thanksgiving and a soldier home for the holidays.

Roy Lichtenstein features a nice looking Turkey. The final painting shows the Macy’s Day Parade. By now, Thanksgiving has become a commercial holiday. It is all about eating and Black Friday.

It has lost all its meaning. Anyhow, there is going to be a video of these artworks in my Artsy Sister Youtube channel. Please give a like and subscribe.
