cute, ottoman, princess -

This drawing features the pretty dress of the original princess Jasmine. Princess Mihrimah was one of the most prominent women of her day. Unlike most European princesses, she worked alongside her father for the welfare of the country. She was a patron of the arts, and continued to do so even after getting married. Since she hanged out in Europe a lot for diplomatic missions, she needed a European like dress. Her veil was how she marked herself as an Ottoman princess. This shows an interesting blend of both western and oriental fashion. As a whole, it gave me plenty...

beautiful, dancer, drawing, syrian -

Here is a nice little Syrian Dancer. At least, this is what the Russians thought Syrian dancers looked like. This was part of the Japanesque and Orientalism trends that were common Place in Europe. Russians were caught in that trend. It was more visible in their ballets.  Ballet is not a traditional dance of Russia. Now, ballets has become quite common place in Russia. This is not to say that Russians never bothered to do a little research. This is well noted in the head gear and outfit of the maiden. The colors chosen in the outfit were not made...

art, drawing, sketch -

This is one of my early drawings from High School. This was my language art teacher Mrs. Sanchez. She wanted to be a singer, but had to settle for teaching. I used to always doodle in the side of my composition book. To manage the chaos, she gave me my first sketch pad, and first drawing pencil. I made that portrait on a slow day.  I cannot say this meant much at the time, or even now. I was bored at school, and this was something to do. She was standing still a lot, looking at a movie or something,...

acrylic, art, painting -

I first heard of Tardigrades through the documentary Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey. This little critter is one of the many micro animals that live in a water droplet. I thought it was interesting the story about it. He can survive in out of space, and does not need to eat food for a year.  I decided one day to do an acrylic painting about this little critter. He is dreaming about his time in space. I placed him inside a water droplet, since he spends most of his time there. The painting itself did not take too long. I...

anime, anime girl, book, kida, manga, the furies -

This is one of my recent pages of the manga The Furies. It features Kida getting dressed for a Hindu Wedding. She is in a foul mood because we did not animated her traditional Greek Wedding. When I say Greek, I refer to the Greeks of yonder times, not the modern day chaste Greeks. Greeks these days are but a shadow of their more entertaining selves.  As you can tell, the wedding dress has plenty of small details. I did a lot of research before crafting this dress. Its supposed to be red, but the manga is in black and...
