This drawing features the pretty dress of the original princess Jasmine. Princess Mihrimah was one of the most prominent women of her day. Unlike most European princesses, she worked alongside her father for the welfare of the country. She was a patron of the arts, and continued to do so even after getting married. Here is a nice little Syrian Dancer. At least, this is what the Russians thought Syrian dancers looked like. This was part of the Japanesque and Orientalism trends that were common Place in Europe.
