This is another one of my Alice paintings. When I was posting it to instragram, I had to climb on a chair because I had already hung the painting. Most of all the paintings in my house are hung with Velcro. We are not big fans of opening holes on the wall. The main exception to this rule was the painting mother bought from her friend. We gave it a price centerfold in the house. As for my paintings, as of now, I am only limited them to my bedroom. Once the room gets filled with paintings, I might have to expand to the office and the n the rest of the house. I tend to do a painting per day, given the change. The again, I do have other interests. This painting thing was just a nice change of pace. It usually takes me a bit to get in the proper mood to write a complete graphic novel. I have already most of the episodes. The only thing that is left is to sit down and draw them. There is only so much one can do with two fellows. I think we could make speedier process, if we had more people added to the team. This too would entail other problems related to collaboration. I am much as a collaborator as the next fellow.
Still, I never met a fellow who had my type of artistic sensibilities and tastes. Most of the other folks just seem caught up on the banality of things. The issue is that they are too fanatic about certain things. As far as mangas and stories are concerned, you must never become a fanatic. This will taint everything that you do and create with pollution. Storyline pollution is quite common indeed. It is rare to see a plot that is genuinely original. Then again, there is only so much that people can write and imagine. Something must be based on whatever, in order to give it a certain tangible benefit. This is just my long winded way of saying that I am drawing a bit of a blank. Now, back to my little Alice painting. I have slowly been taking the good old Alice where no Alice has gone before. I do not know why Alice never got more parts. She went to wonderland and the looking glass. Those are about all her adventures. Even when people do stuff with Alice, they keep her in a familiar setting. I wanted to change it up a bit. This is why she is underwater.
I painted from life the corals and all the little fishes. I chose to have a couple schooling around her hair. Most of the fishes tend to school in places they are familiar. Schooling is also a defense mechanism. There is a predator nearby, but Alice doesn’t see it. Then again, most marine creatures do not see human as food. Even when they bite us, they usually spit us out. The whole man eating shark thing is a myth. We are more likely to be bitten by Barracudas than by sharks. In fact, my mom and my brother almost got bit by one in Mexico. They had gone to the beach to feed a turtle some bananas. When they started heading to the shore a Barracuda started circling around them and blocking their path. The douche Mexican lifeguard was nonchalant about it. What does it matter to him that some tourists get bit by a fish? This is and many other reasons is why I am not too exited about visiting Mexico again. Mexico is only a country in name.
There are a lot of regional variances, and the government tends to ignore all the indigenous population. IF you ignore a social group, problems are bound to occur. It is best not to get caught up in the crossfire. This is enough about Mexico. There are some things which cannot be helped. It is all the Spaniard’s fault after all. Then again, when they came there, the land was in strife. They did not so much as win, as they were forced to coexist with the indigenous population. This is not the official story you hear in the rest of the World. I know this because I studied Mexican History at University. It was part of my Latin American studies. I knew plenty of Europe, so I figured I would take a whack at it. The way they tell the story in the West is that the Spanish won, the end. Within the indigenous population, it is another story. After all, they are still there and they retain a semblance of their old identity. They can even read the old script, and their language is only dead to the Westerners. I suppose there is no point in going on about it. My fellow reader is hear for Artsy Stuff, not for a lecture on Mexican History.
All the histories are a type of fiction. Just because the speaker says that it is real, it doesn’t make it so. I have already gone on a similar rant about the history of histories. You can just check it out in one of my other blogs. I do not remember which one. I am also not in the mood of looking it up. Well, let us just wrap things up a bit. I am seeing a show, and I am a bit distracted. Mondays are such a pain, and I am still a bit sore from walking around too much. I wish I had more cheesecake to eat. This painting is called Alice Underwater. It was made by me, Teresita Blanco the Artsy Sister. The painting was made with my US Art Supply set. The canvas panel was part of that set. The titanium white is from Daler Rowney. I needed plenty of titanium white, so I got this useful set. The glitter is from a different set of US Art Supply. I applied the glitter using my liquitex varnish. It binds the glitter better than glue, and since it is clear it does not mess with the paint below. I hope you find this information useful.
