Last Sunday, I visited The Theater of the Sea with my family. We got the tickets online. We had nothing better to do during our mini vacation.
We always drive by there, on our way to Wahoo Bar and Grill. In order to quench our curiosity, we bought tickets to that Theater.
Despite its name, the Theater is like an aquarium and a nature preserve. They rescue and rehabilitate animals before returning them to the wild.
The shows work on a rotation cycle. We spent 30 bucks to enter the Theater. It was a fair price. We arrived there around 10 a.m.
The first show we saw focused on parrots. The lady told us everything we needed to know about macaws.
The main point of her presentation was that they were loud, annoying pets. All the parrots of her collection had been donated by owners who were tired of their loud pets.
Parrots live 50 years, so if you get one they are going to be a forever pet. So, if you are looking for life partner a Parrot is a good option for you.
Aside from stating basic facts, the lady showcased a few tricks. One can do math, one was trained to recycle, one posed for photos on command and the other did a balancing act.
The lady gave you some basic pointers on how to train your parrot using positive reinforcement.
The second show I saw featured dolphins. As to be expected, it was quite amusing.
The dolphins jumped through hoops, they splashed the audience, and they swam with their trainers. I took a decent number of photos of the show.
The second show that followed was a boat ride. We didn’t get inside the boat due to lack of space.
From there, we went to see the seal show. The seal’s act was more of a standup comedy act. Do not expect anything too crazy from it.
The first seal to perform had a type of Tourette syndrome. She kept bobbing her head around, even though she had no earthly reason to do so.
That wasn’t her official diagnosis. Her trainer just said that the seal just had a neurological disorder, and that was the reason why the seal had to live in captivity.
The second seal did a bouncy ball trick, and he played with hoops. At the end of the show, we noticed that it might rain soon.
We decided to just explore the rest of the park, without going into any of the other shows. The Theater of the Sea has a lot of beautiful orchids.
I also photographed other flowers I found amusing. Even if you do not like the shows, the Theater is a great place to nature walk.
I saw turtles, more parrots and a couple of crocodiles. All in all, the Theater of the Sea was a great place to kill a couple of hours.
If you pass by Islamorada, do pay a visit to the Theater of the Sea. This is Teresita Blanco, the Artsy Sister.
I just got back from my short vacation. Bye, bye, and God bless.
