Tanabata has become of a little family tradition. Brother person got into celebrating Tanabata with his girlfriend. I ended up joining in the fun, along with my mother.

For those not up to date with the fun, Tanabata is known as the Star Festival in Japan. The celestial deities Orihime and Hikoboshi are together at last.

They are only allowed to meet up once per year, on the seventh day, of the seventh month of the lunar Calendar. Since the Gods are in a good mood, the folks in Japan take this chance to ask for a bunch of stuff.

It usually works better to ask for things, when the deities are in a good mood. Following in suit, I asked for some things as well. We each placed two wishes on the wishing tree.

Since the deities are Japanese Gods, we wrote the stuff down in Japanese. It just saves a few extra steps. My brother knows a bit of Japanese, so he wrote it down for me.

My mother wanted her two wishes to stand out, so she had me place it beneath the Mar Pacifico Flowers. I think I might fill you up on the rest of the stories of the Deities. Orihime and Hikoboshi are represented by the stars Vega and Altair.

When they are together, they tend to neglect their celestial duties. It is for this reason that Tentei, the Sky King keeps both lovers separated from one another.

If they do a good job, they can meet up together once per year. It may seem like a long time apart, but remember these are deities. Time flows differently for eternal beings.

If it rains on the day of Tanabata, the lovers are not able to meet. For that reason they are going to have to wait till next year, to meet up again.

The magpies who serve as a bridge for their meeting spot do not fly if it rains too much. If it rains during Tanabata, the Gods might not be in a wish granting type of mood.

Perhaps, the place that should not have any rain is Japan. Anyhow, I hope you find this information amusing. I also took some photos of the wishes. They are all in Japanese.

So, have fun figuring out what we asked for, considering my brother’s unique Japanese Calligraphy. His Japanese teacher used to say he had a unique way of writing. I hope this little blog about Tanabata and the photos makes you smile. Bye, Bye, and God bless.
