Today it was a day like any other day. I finally got started with the second volume of my manga. It only has three volumes, so I better pick up the pace. People tend to go a little crazy with the lengths of the mangas. I suppose it is for sales and whatnot. Still, I was always a big fan of those that ended in a single volume. Even two to three volumes is dandy. Most of the time, the longer comics just felt like they were doing fillers between plot developments. There have been some occasions when the concept is good, but the manga itself is terrible. The best example of this is Samurai Deeper Kyo. The manga had like 40 terrible volumes and the TV show wiggled it down to just 25 episodes. By focusing just on the gem, they were able to make a half decent show. The type that I would watch.
Then, there are those that the journey is the story and not the destination. I can barely put up with those. It makes me think of one of those framing devices. The main characters and their problems are just framing devices for a bunch of short stories. I guess it might work in writing, but on a TV, that is where I have to draw the line. I have not seen a good TV show in ages. Then again, I only have Netflix to work with. I have been playing a new game my brother got for me. It is called Little Dragon Café. He noticed that most of the time I liked picking up items, instead of fighting. He figured that the game was right up my alley, since I like to stock up on junk. Even in the real world, I like stocking up on things. If I had a little bit more space, I would have more art supplies all over my room.
Still, I can only fit as much as there is room in my drawers and in office. We are a bit of a tidy family, we do not like having a lot of junk out in the open. In a sense, our house is different from many other people. You come inside and give one look and you see it all. I guess we are minimalist in that fashion. I never got what that meant. It is just a junk invented by rich people, who got tired of having lots of nice things. I first heard the term in one of those pretentious Netflix documentaries. It was about a rich guy who gave up his luxury pad, to live in a smaller setting. He painted it like some brooding thoughtful choice, while in reality it was probably his accountant who told him that he was going to run out of money in like 10 years.
Most people only bother to make dramatic changes to save a couple of bucks. They live beyond their means, and then they enter the poor house. With everything, there is never a need to exaggerate. As the saying goes, there is such a thing as good enough. Speaking of which, this about sums up my latest drawing. I think it is good enough to post. It is a little girl in a red outfit. She was drawing with my Royal and Langnickel pencil. I then traced over it with my Stabilo mini pens and one Staedtler pen. I then erased the pencil lines with my pentel eraser. I then colored the picture with my Art 101 coloring pencils. The clothing shading I did with my Derwent Gray pencil. Lastly, I colored her skin with my Lyra coloring pencil. I hope you find this information useful for your drawing endeavors.
