It is rather rare that a I get a chance to get a wide view of the city. This photo is from Cartagena Colombia. It shows most of the city as seen from the Convent on top of the mountain. It gives a nice perspective on the city. The light does not help it one bit. It makes the city look bleak and dismal. I was only there for a week, and when I went walking into the city itself, I hated it. I thought I was going to get mugged everywhere I went.

There is a lot of poverty there. Sure, there is poverty even in Arcadia. I have noticed such patterns in a lot of tourist dependent cities. Based on my scenarios of Tropico, tourism is not a good way of helping a country and its citizens make money. The only people who benefit are the hotels, and the owners. The employees live from tip to tip. I mean just look at this. You see there is a lot of buildings, but there is no traffic.

This shows me that the locals cannot afford cars. My tour guide was great. He spoke in a bleak, nonchalant fashion about the issue of poverty in the city. All around the mountain are the Colombia equivalent of favelas. Then again, such things cannot be helped. Colombia is still stuck in a civil war they can't seem to get out of. Whenever one president makes progress, a dozen come that give an easy treatment to the bad guys. Oh! Well, none of that matters.

People can't be worrying about others. Most people I met are all talk and no action. And even when there is an action, it is not based on reality. Just because you think you are a nice person, doesn't mean everyone else is nice. There would not be a need for weapons, if there was not some douche out there out to hurt you. As I said before, security is just an illusion.
