Most folks are familiar with flutes. As for the contrabass flute, that is an instrument that does not appear often. The flute is a relatively new instrument. It was invented in the 70s in Japan and in the Netherlands.
As with most new instruments, there is plenty of music composition being made for it. It is used as both a solo and in chamber music as well. Peter Sheridan makes music for this instrument every so often.
The instrument has the same range as the flute, except that it is pitched two octaves lower. The instrument can also do trills, which is a lot of fun. As to be expected, the contrabass flute requires a strong set of lungs. It is for this reason that most of the contrabass compositions have a lot of rests.
For the true instrument to shine, it requires a fellow that has the strongest lungs there ever where. Wouldn’t that be something? So, if you have strong lungs, you should give the Contrabass flute a shot. The drawing itself was made with coloring pencils, and those trusty fineliner pens.
You don’t need good art supplies to make a decent drawing. When it comes down to it, skill is what produces good art. Anyhow, if you are a contrabass player I hope you continue working on that lung strength. The fewer the rests you take, the nicer the music you produce.
