Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness Game Review
I got the new star ocean game just two days ago. Overall, I have been having a lot of fun. The one main thing I would change about the game is the main character’s name. The bastard is called Fidel. Everytime, I hear his name I cannot help but think of Fidel Castro, so it is a bit annoying.
Another thing I did not like was the saved spots. I wish this game would get with the program. It is called Autosave. It works a lot better than safe spots. For those that do not know, the game was developed by Tri-Ace. This was the division that developed the entire strange, God slaying related RPGs.
The last thing I did not like about the game was that the speech was too Japanese. Even with the English translation, the meaning, behind meaning speech is still there. This creates a lot of bizarre awkward moments when conversing with party members. All the party members now think Fidel is Uke, which adds all levels of hilarity to the game.
When you buy the day one edition, it comes with a coupon code. It gives the player a few DLC content and the music from Valkyrie Profile. The music was quite nostalgic. Unlike the other Star Oceans, Fidel and his friends are the ones with low technology getting an upgrade.
The ship in the presentation is a bit of a teaser. I have not advanced much in the storyline. Those who have been playing the game have yet to finish it. This game is said to be really, really long. This works well considering that games today have short storylines.
It also has a pretty big world map, and other worlds to boot. Fidel’s romantic interest is a little chubby girl named Miki. When he said her name, I thought at first that he meant Mickey. I was a bit freaked out for a second.
Her character development is a bit of a letdown. She is a bit too “housewife” for my taste. She was a big disappointment in comparison to the development of the character Reimi. The awesome Reimi had an eating disorder and a whole lot of mental issues. It is still a bit early in the game to say for certain.
Unlike other RPGs, this one has the entire cast fighting at once. It makes a lot more sense, battle wise. Also, when the battle is started, it does not load up a different arena. The entire fights take place in real time. The fighting schematics are closer to Star Ocean till the End of time.
The Fidel bastard has the move sets of Fayt. I usually play with him because like the real Fidel, this character never dies. The monsters in the outside world get stronger as time passes. They also change in form too. There is also a random dungeon that shows up from time to time called the Cathedral of Oblivion. Defeating the boss there earns you prices. The guard is also your overdrive in the game.
The event style of the game is more akin to Dark Souls. You can trigger or not trigger events at your leisure. The character also emotes and has gestures. The game has like 100 item component makings things. Also the synergy is like the randomness of making items of Till the End of Time.
My favorite character in the game is the little girl Relia. She did not speak much at first. She was so quiet that I used to think her universal translator was broken. She did start speaking eventually. All her speeches were rather quirky and I think her primary function is to spy on the main character. Anyhow, this is all just speculation. I have not advanced much in the game. I recommend this game. It is quite a lot of fun.
Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 PS2 Game Review
Shadow Hearts was one of my favorite RPG series. It was a pity that it did not continue along the same line. The first two parts had the main character Yuri. The third part I never got around to playing. In any case, the game takes place in the real world.
Some of the historical characters tend to undergo monstrous transformations. In a sense, the game showed the magic of early 1900s. The best one of the series was Shadow Hearts 2. It had great graphics and one of the cool bosses was Rasputin.
The game was about a kid named Yuri. He was a harmonizer of sorts. He had all sorts of transformation powers. However, each new form was born of some trauma. Using his powers came at a price, since he gained the negative karma of killing people. One usually had to go to his inner world to clear his conscience.
The fights also used a bizarre ring system. When clicking the ring right, the character could take away more. There was also an incentive to end the fights quickly. If the characters spent too much time in battle, the stress would make them fight one another as well. All in all, Shadow Hearts was an interesting game, with a cool concept.
The Witcher III Blood and Wine DLC Game Review
Recently, I started the DLC of the Witcher called Blood and Wine. This DLC was a whole different area was action took place. Geralt is hired by some knights to look into the matter of a supernatural monster. The first official fight in the new area too place by the Dulcinea windmill.
The fight was against a giant, who was cursed by the lady of the lake. Indeed, it seemed as if the Witcher had crossed over into a knightly book. Everyone had two ways of talking. It got pretty annoying for my Witcher who a master of small talk was.
He liked to get to the point and figure out the sort of monster. The new areas have a nice new fauna of monsters, and some new and improved old ones. The draconics in this area do breathe fire and there are some odd dogs here and there.
The best thing about the new place is the scenery. The entire place is a pretty as a picture, and the sunsets are gorgeous as well. This DLC also comes with a new gwent side quest and a tournament as well. It seemed as if the company took the hint and decided to make more gwent tournaments.
The AI for the gwent games has also gotten an update. Even with my Nifgarian deck, filled with spies, I still have to think things through. For now, I am collecting cards as I go from town to town looking for notice boards. The barkeep or a shopkeeper is usually up for a round of gwent. In this area, they raised the price of the best, so it’s an easy way to get 100 bucks.
Dark Souls III Game Review
Three days ago, I got my Dark Souls 3 game. The game was supposed to have come on the twelve, but the mail guy got lost or something. Anyhow, the game was a Prequel to Dark Souls 1. It followed the crazy adventures of a Lord of Cinders.
As a Lord of Cinders, the main character is treated with respect. Characters do not call him a feeble cursed one. He can still get the dark sign, though. Once you get it cured, the player is unable to develop dark tendencies. Still, there is a point of no return.
People that die and invade too much become hollows, like the days of old. My character is still peachy, even when she dies. She is one lovely Lord of Cinders. In the first world, there is an ice gecko. It was quite the feat to defeat him at the start. It gave me a good motivation to win against the boss battle since it gave me like 3000 souls or something.
Another important acquisition was the Uchigatana. I had to beat up a samurai near the shrine. After getting killed by it twice, I struck the samurai until it fell off a cliff. After sitting at the bonfire, the items reloaded were the samurai used to be.
The first official boss of the game was Vordt of Boreal Valley. He fought rather low while crawling on all fours. This made his attacks wild and somewhat unpredictable. He was one though cookie. While helping people online, I got beat up a couple of times by the dancer maiden boss. Her dance choreography was deadly to counter.
Her weapons and armor was similar to those worn by Lord of Blade. Recently, I managed to slay her. The trick was to stay on her all the time, except during her half way point. The maiden was really weak to pyromancy. The Canthus fire blade was really useful.
As of now, I have almost defeated all the bosses in this game. I am just missing the twins and what follows. King Lothic and his brother remind me a bit of Dragonlance. The strongman and the fragile black robe are just like Raistlin and Cameron.
My favorite boss fight was the one against Aldrich Devourer of Gods. She looked very similar to Gwyndolin. She was taking up residence in the boss area of Fatty and Skinny. Like Gwyndolin, she fought with a bow and magic. She also had a snake’s tail and the sun crown as well. She also did use to pull the disappearance trick. The only difference was that her teleportation did not resemble a miracle.
All her other attacks were pretty flashy. It was quite a distraction. Another good boss battle was against Farron and his Abyss Watchers. They spent most of their time fighting with one another than keeping track of the Abyss. In the boss battle, one could use his legionnaires to easily weaken Farron in the first stage of the fight. In the second one, he was alone so there was no other choice, but to the get good scrub.
This Dark Souls 3 game introduced bosses with weak points. The cursed tree one had to be struck in the balls. The giant High Lord Wolnir’s weak spot were his bracelets. The ancient dragon could be slain with one hit KO by drop slashing on his head. Frankly, I shot this dragon with arrows since jumping the obstacle course seemed like too much of a bother. Yhorm the giant had a sword by his throne that could be used to slay him.
The worse boss that I had to defeat up to date was the Nameless King. He was pretty hard because there were a lot of scrubs taking over the good summon signs. When I did get a helper, he died after two strikes. Having the monster’s undivided attention was a no go.
Since I was not having any luck defeating the monsters. I decided to help people and win a sunlight metal on the side. While fighting for others, I tried out a new armor built. In the first two wins, I sorta cheesed my way through the fights. I won by shooting only arrows. Dodging was also useful too.
After thinking it a bit, I decided that this made the battle too long. Thus, I decided to drop the bow and upgrade the armor. Using the ring of the embedded, I upgraded the armor to one that had 30 percent lightning absorption. That ended up being the trick. And so, after four hours I was able to kill the storm king.
In the dragon area, it was interesting to see Havel the rock. His shield has recently been upgraded to dark souls 1 standard. This means that it make people turn into rocks, as a special effect. The ability had been missed by the developers of Dark Souls 2.
As of now, I am doing the covenants before getting to Lothic and his more successful twin. I have also been trying to follow some of the odd storylines I missed. Since I spent most of my time running away from though monsters, I missed a few NCP related moments. Going back to them, I ran into Patches and my new sorcery guy. My old turtle one had died of natural causes.
There was also the story of Horace and Anri. Anri had gotten killed by a turtle guy using a chameleon spell. He was found impaled with a cross on his face. Through running around, I missed a few areas here and there, like the fire area. One had to fall from the rickety bridge of the Catacombs to get to it. On the upside, I did get all the covenants; though some like Rosaria’s Fingers was kind of hard to get to.
I also found the eyes of the firekeeper. She promised to help me betray the world by letting the flames die. It is interesting to note there is a parallel world beyond the dragon sage boss. In this one, the flame has already died. I also found the main character’s tomb with a dead guy inside it. Frankly, the storyline of Dark Souls 3 makes as much sense as any of the other Dark Souls.
The only consistency among all the games is that they take things from the Berserk manga. In this one, they had Guts in his dog form on several occasions. The priest angel and all his lackeys were Berserk bosses as well. Guts too had to fight a deranged angel demon priest.
Another similarity is the red eye orb. It is a reference to the Behelit or the Egg of the King from Berserk. Like the egg, this red orb with eyes gives people the ability to be douchebags. Players can use it to invade as often as they feel like it. One of the armors too looks like Guts regular armor set, before he upgraded to the Berserk armor.
Skyrim Game Review
Skyrim or the Glitcher set the industry standard for most flawed game. It was also pretty successful despite the fact that it had so many flaws. The flaws came so often and were so comical that it became a thing in youtube.
The game was about a medieval illegal immigrant. For crossing the border, the Imperials were going to chop off my head. It was fun to be different races. Only the High Elf was useful, so was the Argonian. In my last file, I was an Argonian. It was fun to swim underwater.
There was nothing worth finding underground. The best thing about Skyrim was walking about adventuring. The things that happened in the open road were random. Some of the dungeons discovered where quite random.
At other times, you could get tagged by a saber tooth or a dragon. The random storylines usually took days to get done. The side quests to get the Draedra weapons were pretty fun. I liked a lot the one where the dragonborn had to get the dawnbreaker. It is one of my favorite swords.
It glows so pretty in the darkness. It is the best sword to use in lieu of a magic light. Aside from quests, the game has gotten a few expansion packs. The one in the other continent worked well. However, when I added the vampire saga the game broke or something.
It froze like all the time. Also, when not frozen it took forever to load up a horse stuck in the middle of the ground. Speaking of horses, I liked a lot the immortal horse Shadowmare. He used to help me fighting dragons, which was weird.
The people in Skyrim were a bit too brave when fighting dragons. Most people would have run for it. I only won the game once. The money trick in the game was making enchanted daggers, with small gems. In the old days, the levels were limited. Now, you can level up as much as you want.
A recent change allowed for the dragonborn making arrows. It was weird that the dragonborn could not make arrows. He could make dragon mail, but not dragon arrows. Overall, it was a fun game. The few army battles it had been pretty fun.
Guitar Hero and Rock Band Game Review
Guitar Hero is one of my favorite gaming series. The first one I played was the one for the 80s. The change from normal to hard struck one like a ton of bricks. Since I was not used to the plastic guitar, I got carpeltonel from the easy form. It was quite depressing if you think about it.
Anyhow, the game had plenty of great rock songs. The one I liked best was Dio’s Holy Diver. The Hard version was kind of messed up. The second game I played was Guitar Hero 2. This one was more metal the previous version.
The best example of it was Megasus Red Lottery. It was the best example of Guitar Hero on a nutshell. Since the second part was too metal, the third part had more popular rocks songs. It introduced the vs skit as part of the main storyline.
The player had to defeat Slash and Tom Morello. The final boss song was the rock version of The Devil Went Down to Georgia. It was a pretty hard entertaining song. Another good Guitar Hero was about Aerosmith. It had plenty of the Band’s song. It also had music made by other bad music, which is a pity.
The last Guitar Hero game I played was the one featuring all the hits. In that one, the main bad guy was the rock and roll God for some odd reason. Some of the songs were no hits at all, like Queen’s Killer Queen. The song just went on forever. There were one or two songs I never heard about. Overall, it was a pretty decent game series.
As for Rock Band, I only played the Beatles version. The game also came with a mike, a wireless guitar and a drum kit. The guitar had problems since the wireless portion of it was a hit and miss. In the end, we had to get a new controller. The game was pretty fun, even though the good songs had to be bought with real money in the form of expansion packs.
Tri Ace Games: Radiata Stories Review
Try Ace used to be a subsidiary of Square Enix. It was eventually absorbed into the main company. Anyhow, this company was responsible for making all my favorite experimental RPG games. The first one worth mentioning is Radiata Stories.
It has one of the openings of any game. It starts with the father of main character fighting a two headed water dragon named Kelvin. He was pretty well designed since with one head shot hot water and the other ice.
The ending of the battle was pretty neat. The game was about a young man named Jack Russell. He wanted to be a knight like his dad. In the trail exam, he failed miserably. He only got into a unit because his dad was a legend.
The game eventually takes an odd twist were the main kid joins the guilds for some reason. From then on, the gamer must maneuver the nonsense of the Guild System. The game has an internal clock; some of the key events are timed. It also has day and night.
Depending on the time are the kinds of monsters you fight. The main character can also pick fights with anyone. It is a great way to level up. Recruiting people to your party was important. The main character could learn abilities from them.
Also only Jack Russell could get armors. The side quests were all quite odd and entertaining. Since it was a Tri Ace game, it has a special area unlocked after killing the final boss. It also had different difficult levels and multiple endings.
The fighting was pretty varied since the main character could use all weapons and a different overdrive per weapon. Some of the extra characters had unique overdrives. The special area also did a crossover with other Tri Ace games. It made one wonder where the game took place.
Tri Ace: Star Ocean Game Review
Star Ocean is one of the oldest gaming series. It even has an old anime show. They do have some commonalities. Practically in all of them something bad happens or almost happens to planet Earth. The first one that I played was Till the End of Time. This one introduced the concept of battle trophies.
Star Ocean had battle trophies for the PS2 console. It had more than 500 things to accomplish. As you did them, the more gimmicks were unlocked in the game. Most of the time there were different looks for the characters.
The gameplay provided plenty of movement freedom. However, once the attack was started there was no way to stop. The game also had a chain, the more battles that were won in a roll, the higher the EXP. It was all well and good until, I got to the higher tiers of difficulty.
To win in 4D, I started being a super control freak about the levels. I would only give Fait the level if it gave him 4 of defense. I never got around to defeating Freya in 4D. Still, he had more defense than in all files put together. He still had a few more levels to go.
Aside from the storyline, the game featured some pretty cool magic or symbology. Sophia had all the spells. Some of her magic was odd, like Gremlins. Her strongest spell took like half an hour to cast. She had a little adorable choreography and everything.
The worst thing about her is that her defense levels never went above 2. Sometimes, she would get no defense pecks. Still, she was good with her MP attacks. This game had the unique thing that running out of MP also killed you. Other attack, like Dimension Door, chipped away at your HP. Dimension Door was my favorite attack.
Another interesting thing worth mentioning was the item crafting parameter. The main kid had to recruit craftmans. If not, he would have to compete against them, which was not an option. To get the best smith was a real pain; I had to win like 100 bunny races. It’s nice that the side quests got better over the years. I mean some were a real pain.
The Star Ocean the Last Hope had more aggressive play style. The magic was actually useful, for the most part. This one was about humans trying to colonize another world. The opening sequence was quite grim in comparison to the hopeful vision of the future in Till the End of Time.
The fighting schematics included blindsides. Triggering them was a lot of fun. The inventors’ side quest was undone. Only the main cast could invent new blueprints. Like its previous counterpart, the game had a tournament. The final match was pretty hard. Recently, Square Enix has announced a new Star Ocean game. It will come out possibly next year.
