I was reading a biography of Gustav Klimt while I was in the can. I like to read while I am doing my business.

It is a good way to relax and do something productive with my time. I was looking at the paintings and drawings over the top when I noticed something peculiar.

Gustav Klimt can’t paint feet. Well. It is a bit of an exaggeration. He has drawn feet before, but the mere act of drawing them frustrates him.

The features painting above is the inspiration of this blog. One foot shows signs of being redrawn like 100 times.

With the other feet, Klimt didn’t even bother to paint it. Whenever he draws ugly feet, he paints over it with patterns.

All in all, whenever feet appear in his paintings, they are usually lackluster. Most of his compositions are designed to avoid painting feet.

His rough sketches perfectly illustrate the difficulty that Klimt has for drawing human feet.

All other academic painters draw feet, while Klimt avoids it like the plague. His earlier paintings do feature human feet.

Though, when he got into Art Nouveau, he threw human feet out the window.

I think he managed to draw feet well in his earlier paintings thanks to the assistance of his brother.

There were two Klimt painters, though Gustav Klimt is the one that became famous.

Since Gustav Klimt was rich, he had the luxury to paint whatever he felt like.

Overtime, he reduces the human figure to his favorite features, the hands and the face.

The rest he covered up with patterns and ornamentation. I hope I provided you with a new perspective.

Gustav Klimt is the living proof that you can suck at drawing human feet, and you can still manage to become a famous painter.

This is Teresita Blanco, the Artsy Sister. Bye, bye and God Bless.
