Today, I felt like making a new Hollow Knight painting fanart. I chose to do Britto because I like his art style.
I think it would combine well with the Hollow Knight Aesthetics. Hollow Knight is a very grey game. I wanted to see how the Grey Mourner Ze’mer and the Traitor’s Child would look like with a bit of color.
Both characters within the game have grey colors. Their backstory is pretty depressing. They were lovers that were not allowed to be together.
The traitor’s child is eventually killed. Ze’mer is left completely by herself to mourn the loss of her lover. In my fanart, I wanted to show the characters alive, happy, in full color and in love.
Their world is so bleak and depressing. So, I wanted to add a bit more color to it. The idea behind this drawing is style over substance.
I chose Ze’mer and the Traitor’s Child as a couple because they are both tall and skinny. They worked for the Britto Painting I was trying to mimic.
All that was left was to fill the drawing with patterns. Britto doesn’t shade his characters. He uses pure pigments.
It is amassing how dynamic his paintings look, despite looking so simple. It was a joy to add color to these two grey looking Hollow Knight characters.
I hope my drawing teaches you not to be afraid of color or patterns. I think that Britto’s style of painting can combine well with just about anything.
To test this theory out, I used Hollow Knight characters. For those that don’t know, Romero Britto is a Brazilian pop artist and cubist.
He does paint and sculptures, all with his signature style.
The painting I chose to reference is called Big Heart.
It shows a couple around a Big Heart. It is cute, and sugary sweet, in the best type of way.
I think I ranted enough about his artwork. My name is Teresita Blanco, the Artsy Sister. Bye, bye and God bless.
