Today, I wanted to show you my latest ink art paintings. I got into painting butterflies again.
This time I am using ink instead of watercolor. Ink paintings are a bit difficult to manage, but I am learning.
Ink artist tend to lean more towards abstraction. With a bit of practice, I am getting into making more defined forms.
Like before, I photographed the dry and wet versions of the painting.
I also photographed a couple of painting details. The first painting I made was the soul of a blue morpho.
I was originally trying to make an actual blue morpho.
I flooded the painting with rubbing alcohol. This made it difficult for me to maintain the shape.
So, I ended up making it an abstract painting. I added golds and greens into the blue ink.
I was trying to emulate the shimmering colors generated by the wings of a blue morpho.
I also added some golden ink into the mix. Once I was happy with the painting, then came the difficult part.
I like to dry my paintings outside the house. I dry them in the porch to be more specific.
I needed to move the painting from the kitchen table to the porch.
Since the paint was wet, some of the elements started to move about.
This is why the dry version looks so different from the wet version.
The golden stuff moved about a lot during the transfer process.
It still looks fine.
Just different as all.
The second painting was themed after a Peacock butterfly.
This time I didn’t saturate the paper with ink.
I started with body of the butterfly.
I used copper ink to delineate the body.
I then expanded outwards to make the wings.
For the background, I used a simple green background.
This allowed for the red to stand out. Once I was satisfied with the wings, I added more copper ink into the middle.
I did this in order for the body of the butterfly to retain her shape.
I think I ranted enough about my ink art. I might do a little more either today or tomorrow.
I am thinking of making them all pink. Pink is totally my favorite color. It is also the color of breast cancer awareness month.
It takes place in October. So, I wanted folks to become aware of it. Well, I hope you like my new paintings.
My name is Teresita Blanco, the Artsy Sister. Bye, bye and God bless.
