The Keytar is a synthetic instrument. The precursor of the keytar was created in Vienna in 1795. It was a portable piano called orphica. It the evolved into the piano accordion that first appeared in 1852.
The modern keytar first appeared Weltmeister, a manufacturing company in East Germany. Overtime, other companies developed their own versions of the Keytar. It became quite popular in the 1970s and 80s.
