(Intersex Flag)

For this Pride month, I made a bunch of pouring paintings based on Pride Flags. The first batch of paintings feature intersex, polyamory, drag queen and transgender flags.

The intersex flag is the purple and gold flag. In its original form, it is a purple circle without a cross or an arrow. This is a relatively new pride flag, with a simple design.

So, I decided to paint it. The polyamory flag is the black, red and blue flag. It has in the middle a pi sign. My pi ended up looking like a camel.

The Drag Queen Flag is the one with the pink crown, surrounded by white. The last painting features the Transgender flag.

The video for the making of these paintings can be found in Tik Tok and Youtube. I photographed both the wet and the final versions of the paintings.

Some of them ended up looking a little different once they dried. This time I used new pouring paints that came pre-mixed.

They flowed a quite well over the smooth plywood panel. I have been using wood panels to make my little paintings.

I first add a thin layer of gesso. The gesso is there to keep the wood from absorbing the paint.

Wood is designed to absorb moist, since it started life as part of a tree. I brush the gesso a lot to keep the surface smooth.

This assures a perfect flow of the pouring paints. There are certain spots where the paint is thinner. In those areas, you can kinda see the wood underneath.

This works just fine because it adds a bit of texture to the background. This wood grain is more noticeable in the polyamory painting.

I dried the paints outside my porch. I do not like to dry paints indoors, in order to avoid stinking up the house with paint fumes.

It is important to always exercise caution. Even if the paints are nontoxic, it still doesn’t mean that one should inhale them all willy-nilly. Safety matters.

The first batch of paintings feature the finished product, while the rest are the pouring paintings in their wet form.

I only have one photographic copy of the wet form of the painting. So, it came out as it came out.

I need better ways of photographing my paintings, but I do whatever I can with them.

I think I ranted enough about my pouring paintings. My name is Teresita Blanco, the Artsy Sister. Bye, bye and God bless.
