I did an video blog about Van Gogh. He was a self-taught painter. He followed steps to master his craft. He started with paper and pencil. In fact, the bulk of his artworks are pencil drawings.

Once he mastered pencil, he started painting. He used first cheap colors. He was trying to translate his drawing skills to paintings. His next step was to master color. He did still life of flowers to learn how to work with colors.

Flowers used to be popular in his day. Since he was an unproven artist, he taught himself to paint flowers and human portraits. Most of his early practice drawings feature flowers and people faces.

Once he was confident in his skills, he moved to Paris to be with his brother. The impressionists taught him all their tricks. So, try to paint in the style of other painters. Also, make fanarts of your favorite painters.

As you learn new tricks, integrate them into your repertoire. Eventually, develop your own style. From that point on, the sky is the limit. It also helps to paint something that your contemporaries don’t normally paint.

What you paint is also as important as what you paint. You can learn more by watching my Van Gogh video. I am going to embed it bellow. Please give a like and subscribe.
