Today, I felt like doing a Hollow Knight painting parody. After looking through all my options, I decided to do parody of Saturn Devouring his Own Children by Goya.

Goya was a Spanish painter from Spain who went crazy after Napoleon massacred his people. He had a firsthand view of the terrors of war, and naturally that affected his psyche.

The Grubfather in the Hollow Knight devours all his children after you finish rescuing them. You hear them still alive inside his belly. When the knight tries to save them, his nail is unable to pierce the Grubfather’s belly.

It is quite upsetting to say the least. In a game as dark as the Hollow Knight, the Grubfather plotline goes a step too far. I mean would it kill Team Cherry to lighten up.

Not everything needs to be dark and depressing. According to the wiki, the Grubfather eating his brats is part of their lifecycle. They need to be inside a living host in order to undergo a metamorphosis.

One day they will hatch into Grubberfly. They should add the final stage of their metamorphosis into the game in order to give the illiterate gamers some peace of mind.

The Grubberfly’s Elegy explains the next stage of their lifecycle. If you look at the charm, you see a Grub with wings bursting out of the Grubfather. Their life cycle is very similar to the one of Master Grimm, just with fewer steps.

In my drawing, I show the grubfather with an orange mouth. I wanted to allude to the fact that he might have the infestation inside of him. The Grubs happen to live very close to the Hollow Knight.

When the infestation starts leaking out of him, all the bugs in the Forgotten Crossroad become infected. So, it makes sense that the Grubs would get sick as well.

I also fancy that the wings of the Grubberfly resemble the wings of Radiance. I think the Grubs are the Caterpillar of Radiance. The caterpillar of a bug rarely resembles its final form.

I think I ranted enough about the Hollow Knight for one Day. I hope you like my latest Hollow Knight fanart. I am not going to make them all painting parodies. This is Teresita Blanco, the Artsy Sister. Happy Grub hunting.
