Today, I was in the mood to paint a floral painting. In the old days, I used to make these simple paintings with acrylics. This time I did it on watercolor paper. I have been painting with watercolors a lot, as of lately.

I feel more confident working with the medium. Normally, I just make cityscapes or landscapes with watercolors. This time I wanted to paint flowers. First, I drew the roses with a pencil.

I created the shapes starting in the middle. Trust me, with roses, it is always better to start drawing in the center. I drew the center rose first, and then the rest of the flowers. I added the rosehips as part of the decorations.

It is interesting to note all the colors you can get just from a yellow flower. It starts a vibrant yellow. Once it opens, it begins to lose its yellow coloring, until it turns white. If you have red mulch sticks at the base of the flower, the plant absorbs the color red.

It manifests in the edge of the rose petals. That is how you get such lovely hues from this flower. I added pen over the pencil, and then I erased the pencil sketch. With a clean lineart, I started adding color to it.

It just better to have clearly defined borders. Some painters like to add the pen at the end, I find it easier for the pen to be added in the beginning. It keeps everything looking orderly.

First, I painted the background elements. Then, I painted the background roses, with the center rose being the final item I painted. Overall, I think it was a nice exercise in futility.

I used on brush for the entire painting. It helps keep me focused to work with only one brush. Anyhow, I hope you like my latest watercolor painting. This is the Artsy Sister. Bye, bye and God bless.
