Today, I wanted to write about my visit to Xcaret. More specifically, I wanted to focus on my impression of the Maya Cemetery.
It is odd to treat a cemetery as a tourist destination. Regardless, there you have it. I didn’t linger much in the place.
It had a creepy vibe about it. Then again, most cemeteries are rather creepy, and possibly haunted.
I first visited this cemetery a few years ago. It was before the pandemic. There were a lot fewer graves. This time it seemed a little more crowded.
At night, the place looked extra spooky. The photos that I took are from my second visit to the Mayan Cemetery. Facing it, there is the house of whispers.
There is a section within that house that seems to whisper. Plus, it has unique acoustics about it. There is also a souvenir shop inside of it.
The place is also ideal for getting out the scorching Mexican sun. I saw a couple of crows on top of grave markers. The crows certainly do have comedic timing.
They always know where to stand to spook out humans. It is almost as if they are doing it on purpose. The graveyards themselves are rather colorful.
A few even have amusing phrases. They are not as dull as the graveyard that are typically found in the States.
Then again, Mexicans have a different view of the afterlife. By dolling up the grave markers, they provide their loved ones with fancy residence in the Spirit World.
I bet this cemetery would be extra haunted during the Dia de Los Muertos. So, if you happen to be in Cancun, Mexico, do give Xcaret a visit.
There is plenty of things to see. I think I ranted enough about this cemetery. I hope you like the photos that I took. My name is Teresita Blanco, the Artsy Sister. Bye, bye and God bless.
